I have spent the last few months scanning in from slide form, color correcting and organizing over 600 slide photos of our family and close family friends from when I was 2 until about 5 years old. Most had been totally unseen for three decades.
For me this project was like a slow, silent family reunion. I have almost no conscious recollection of these moments so, for me, as I progressed and looked at more and more images, I felt like I was acquiring memories of my own life and gaining insight into the lives of people I care about. Other than individual memories of each person, they conjure feelings that are positive and heart wrenching mixed together at once. They are affirmations of the importance of family and friends mixed with the immediacy and awareness of the passage of time.
